Light Emitting Diode Therapy
Dermalux is the latest generation of LED Phototherapy, a non-invasive rejuvenating treatment which accelerates the face’s own natural repair processes. The treatment aims in improving poor complexion, signs of facial ageing, sun damage, pigmentation and facial redness-inflammation (Acne, Rosacea, Psoriasis, Eczema and Dermatitis).
Tri-wave LED harness the power of 3 specifically chosen waves of Light Emitting Diode (LED) energy, red light at 633nm, near infra-red light at 830nm and blue light at 415nm.
A unique feature of Dermalux LED is that all three wavelengths can be delivered either as individual treatments or concurrently in any selected combination. This is referred to as Concurrent Modality Treatment or CMT. This means that it can provide stimulation at a sub-cellular, cellular and tissue level to target multiple concerns in one treatment session for an optimal clinical response.
Tri-wave light therapy
The red light is used for the benefit of all skin types and has a rejuvenating and anti-inflammatory effect on the skin.
The near infra-red light is the wavelength that is most deeply absorbed by skin tissue and works well in combination with the red light to stimulate collagen, elastin and growth factors within the tissues to counteract ageing and skin damage.
The blue light has an anti-bacterial action which is proven to be extremely effective in the treatment of acne and assisting in the prevention further breakouts. The blue light destroys the P. acnes bacteria responsible to causing the acne breakouts.
Far unlike sunbeds, LEDs do not contain any harmful UV wavelengths so cannot damage skin tissue; they can however stimulate hydration and blood circulation and will instantly give your skin a healthy and radiant glow following exposure during a specified treatment session. Whilst rejuvenating the skin LED also promotes a feeling of relaxation and well being as exposure to light sources can increase serotonin levels in the body which relieve stress, tension and headaches.
Treatment usually lasts for around 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the treatment area and the skin disorder being treated. The number of treatments needed can vary with age, skin type and the condition being targeted with everything from one single treatment session to regular sessions spaced closely together, which often achieve the most optimum results. On going maintenance treatments may also be recommended.
The results of LED phototherapy treatment are cumulative and improvements in the skin will continue even after the treatment has stopped. Darker skin types may require longer exposure times to have the same level of effectiveness as fairer skins.
How long does it last
LED treatments should be immediately visible (with 24 – 48 hours) and skin should appear hydrated, plump and radiant with a calming of any redness and irritation after just one treatment session. Results can last for several months following a course of Dermalux LED phototherapy treatments. However, maintenance sessions are advised to ensure longer lasting results.
Side effects & risks
LED treatment does not harm the body so there are no side effects or downtime associated with the use of Dermalux LED treatments as there is no risk of irritation. As LEDs don`t harm the skin, there is no limit on the amount of treatments you can have. LED therapy does not create a photosensitivity, hence it is a safe treatment to have directly pre- and post- sun exposure.
